The Pop team has deep boating industry experience, and they want to help customers get the most from their boating investment. "We know from experience that preparation is vital when boating season opens if you want to maximize enjoyment on the water," said Pop national sales manager. "Summer is the perfect time to enjoy boating activities, and Pop Yachts offers many tips for getting your boat ready."
According to Pop CEO Mike Adams, the sales team collaborated to identify 10 valuable tips to get your boat ready for the summer season. "We have dozens of avid boaters on our sales team, and they know from many years' experiences how to avoid issues," said Adams. "When Pop sales consultants aren't connecting buyers and sellers, they're typically on the water enjoying our favorite pastime."
Having your boat serviced by a professional is the first step in getting ready for summer. While do-it-yourselfers can cover some minor maintenance, getting your boat ready for the season should involve a professional inspection. This includes checking the engine, transmission, and electrical systems, along with inspecting the boat's hull for any damage, leaks, or cracks.
Checking the batteries will ensure they are fully charged and in good condition before heading out. Boaters should also check if the charging system is working properly. If the battery is more than three years old, it may be time to replace it.
Also noted is inspecting the fuel system can prevent downtime, especially on the water. Always make a point to check if the fuel tank is clean and free of debris. If the fuel filter is more than a year old, it's a good idea to replace it.
Pop marketing director, stressed the importance of a properly working steering and propulsion system. Check the steering cables and linkage for any signs of wear or damage and inspect the propeller to ensure it is in good condition. Additionally, cleaning the boat's exterior and applying a coat of wax goes a long way toward protecting the finish. I regularly check the canvas and make sure it's in good condition and inspect the boat's windows to ensure they are free of cracks or damage.
It is a must to address safety equipment, which sometimes is taken for granted. I always make sure the required safety equipment is in good working condition. This includes life jackets, fire extinguishers, and flares. Also suggested is checking the horn and lights to ensure they're working properly. Also be sure to check the boat's bilge pump and make sure it is working properly.
Adams didn't forget about the fun part of preparations. "I never forget to make sure the boat is stocked with food, water, sunscreen, and a first aid kit," said Adams. "The Pop team has tips for key supplies, especially beverages, to make every boating journey successful."
"Another easy-to-forget task is making sure the registration and insurance are up to date," added Adams. "Check the policy to ensure it covers all the necessary items and keep copies of the boat's registration and insurance when you're on the water."
